Xiamen University (XMU), or Xiamen University (XMU) for short, was founded in 1921 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a famous patriotic Chinese leader, and is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China. XMU adheres to the principle of openness and builds a new pattern of high-level internationalization. It has signed inter-university cooperation agreements with 270 universities outside China, and has carried out substantive exchanges and cooperation with 54 world-renowned universities. The university adheres to the principle of cultivating people with virtue, and has achieved remarkable results in educating people. Since its establishment, the university has successively sent more than 500,000 outstanding talents to the country. There are now more than 46,000 students enrolled in the university, including more than 21,000 undergraduates, 19,000 master's degree students and 5,700 doctoral students. The university's internal quality assurance system has been selected as one of UNESCO's "Typical Cases of Research on Excellent Principles and Innovative Practices of Internal Quality Assurance in Higher Education", and is the only university in China and East Asia to be selected.
